Every year on October 4th, we celebrate World Animal Day by raising awareness about the animals that are very much part of this earth as we are. It is important that we take care of the animals as they play a vital role in the ecosystem. It is part of our duty to live together with animals on earth, as we have for millions of years. To raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe. Building the celebration of World Animal Day unites the animal welfare movement, mobilizing it into a global force to make the world a better place for all animals. It’s celebrated in different ways in every country, irrespective of nationality, religion, faith, or political ideology. Through increased awareness and education we can create a world where animals are always recognized as sentient beings and full regard is always paid to their welfare

This statement is the driving force behind World Animal Day, making sure that the animals are truly taken care of and given the attention that they deserve is crucial. Up to now, humans have been destroying ecosystems and habitats for many animal species. In addition, climate change has made it harder for species to survive and with human pollution, it has only been harder. On this day, we humans thrive to make a difference for the animals. Create a beautiful and safe world for animals. Create a world where animals can thrive and live in harmony with humans.
World Animal Day’s Mini History
Now let’s talk about the origin of World Animal Day. The first World Animal Day was in 1925 in Germany. It was started by Heinrich Zimmermann, who was also the author of Man and Dog and animal activist (Wuest). Although the first World Animal Day was celebrated in March, it was intended for October 4th, in celebration of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology and animals (Wuest). It was later changed to October 4th, plus, an international event.
Don’t know who Francis of Assisi is? Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) was supposed to be able to talk to animals and often preach to animals(World Animal Day). He was often depicted in paintings with animals. He can be seen as an animal activist and thus, on the day he died October 4th, it was selected as World Animal Day.
How to celebrate World Animal Day
Depending on where you are now, you can easily find animal welfare organizations that have events or activities meant for World Animal Day. You can also easily participate in an already organized event that is meant for World Animal Day, such as Roots & Shoots, help save endangered species, and participate in local animal shelters. Whether it is on World Animal Day you volunteer in animal shelters or fund raise for World Animal Day, you are making a difference for the animals. You can be as creative as you want as long as you are promoting and executing World Animal Day’s mission. Encourage and create a world where animals are treated appropriately and respected. If you can’t participate physically for World Animal Day, you can easily raise awareness about World Animal Day. Use your social media and share about World Animal Day, raise awareness and promote the importance of protecting animals and their habitat.
